The Goa Football Association released the official souvenir to mark the Zambia friendlies against a Goa XI on 26th November 2011 and against the Indian national team on 29th November 2011.
The matches were organized to commemorate 50 years of Goan football as well as part of Goa’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
In the first game the Goa XI lost 1-4 to Zambia at Fatorda, stadium, Margao. Goa took the lead through Joy Ferrao but Ronald Kampamba scored, while Evans kangwa grabbed a brace and Chisama Lungu sealed victory for Zambia with the fourth goal.
Three days later at Fatorda stadium, Zambia overcame India 5-0, as Musaknya netted a fine hat-trick while Mulilo Jimmy Chisenga and Sitali Joseph Mushumba scored one apiece.
Before kick off the Indian captain Steven Dias handed over a framed copy of the souvenir with autographs of the entire Indian squad on it to the Zambian captain. After the game the Zambian team reciprocated in signing a framed copy as a memento of the occasion for the India team.
The design of the souvenir was a Golden map of Goa, with the names of all 191 village clubs affiliated to the Goa Football association carefully imprinted on it, along with the 2012 calender.
The replica souvenir was on sale for the Goan football fans inside the stadium on both match days and proved popular.
The design was conceptualized and created by The GOA Learning Soccer School (GOA-L).
